Environmental Health Student Scholarships Doubled to Build Workforce

Denver, CO – This week, the ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½ (ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½) and the American Academy of Sanitarians (AAS) announced the expansion of their student scholarship program from three scholarships to five. They also increased the amount of each scholarship, doubling the total investment in students from $9,050 annually to $16,800 this year.

The ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½/AAS Scholarship Fund provides direct financial support for undergraduate and graduate students.

β€œThese scholarships recognize potential and empower the recipients to make an environmental health impact by helping them to achieve their academic goals,” said Larry Ramdin, ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½ Board of Directors First Vice-President. β€œProviding scholarships is in keeping with ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½β€™s mission to build, sustain, and empower an effective environmental health workforce.”

Over the next few years . Scholarships can help to build the new workforce needed to protect communities from current and emerging environmental health risks.

Graduate Environmental Health Scholarship Recipients

  • David Docherty, Stockton State University, Master of Public Health
  • Mara Kuzmich, University of Arkansas–Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences, Master of Science in Food Safety

Undergraduate Environmental Health Scholarship Recipients

  • Dr. Sheila Davidson Pressley Scholarship: Ella Horgan, Montana State University, Microbiology, Environmental Health
  • Dr. Carolyn Hester Harvey Scholarship: Arilyn Lee, Eastern Kentucky University, Environmental Health Science and Sustainability
  • Undergraduate Environmental Health Scholarship: Brennan Miller, Washington State University Vancouver

β€œMy congratulations to the graduate and undergraduate recipients of the 2024 ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½/AAS Scholarship Awards,” said Vince Radke, Chair of AAS. β€œAll the best to you and we look forward to working with you to solve environmental health problems.”

Funding for the scholarships comes from individual and corporate donations and ΒιΆΉΣ³»­΄«Γ½/AAS budget commitments.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be enrolled a dedicated and recognized curriculum in environmental health sciences within an accredited college or university in the U.S., its territories, or the Freely Associated States, and intend to pursue a career in environmental health.
